What Does the Instructional Model Look Like at the Hybrid School?
A traditional learning day, defined by specific periods of time, does not fit the learning style of all students. To meet the needs of personalization and individualization, the CNUSD Hybrid School schedule will be built around the concept of “Anchor Times” and “Academic Support”. During Anchor Times, students will be involved in teacher directed collaborative learning activities dictated by the students Learning Playlist. Academic Support time is available in the middle of and at the end of each day. During this time students can work independently or in small groups with the support of a teacher when needed.
Although CoLabs are available to all students five days a week, the actual time a student will be required to be present will vary depending on the student's ability to work independently and their academic needs. The assignment of Anchor Times will be determined by the instructors and the students’ Learning Playlist.
What does the schedule look like for Hybrid School Students? Students who attend the CNUSD Hybrid High School will be separated into 2 groups: A Monday/Wednesday group and a Tuesday/Thursday group. Typically this will depend on the student's math course.
Two Days Attend School/Three Days Flex Whether students come to school on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, they all come to school two days for instruction and flex time and spend three days at home using flex time however is best for their academic success. Monday through Thursday classes run from 8:15-3:15, with the addition of "Twilight" Electives on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday that last until 4:30. Students who are involved in Yearbook, Hybrid Leaders of Innovation, or HSOI's leadership class (Renaissance) attend on Fridays.
The daily schedule for HSOI is below:
What about opportunities for students to get additional support from teachers? All students will have additional opportunities to seek support from their teachers during Flex time and Late Teacher Academic Support times. Flex time and Late Teacher Academic Support times are listed below and can be found on the schedule above.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: 11:15-1:15 and 3:15-4:30
Thursday: 11:15-1:15 and 3:15-4:15
Fridays: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
Blended Learning Center Students are also welcome to come in for additional support from 5:00pm-7:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday. The center is always staffed with at least one credentialed teacher, though subject-based help with vary depending on the teacher(s) at the center on a specific date.
ACS (Additional Core Support) Each day during lunch hours, teachers will be available to students for additional support.
What does a playlist look like for two different Monday/Wednesday Students? Students in Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday groups will further be placed into two smaller groups each day. Students will meet with all of their teachers each day they attend, though classes may vary based on the modified block schedule. For example, the Language Arts/P.E. teacher might decide to split their time evenly between classes on both days, or see Language Arts one day and P.E. the next, depending on student learning needs.
What does the learning space look like at the Hybrid School?
The Hybrid School of Innovation offers unique learning spaces referred to as collaborative learning labs, or “CoLabs.” CoLab 1 is primarily used for instruction from one of our very talented instructors. CoLab 2 is a more open and informal space designed for students to work in small groups, study one-on-one, relax, and socialize with their peers.
CoLab 1
With large windows and sweeping views of the mountains and Norco College, CoLab 1 is designed to provide an open and collaborative learning environment for students. Teachers in the CoLab will facilitate small group projects, direct individual learning and focus on specific areas of student need.
CoLab 2
Designed to embrace the natural light and beautiful views of the wooded hillside, CoLab 2 is a place for students to have a quiet space to work independently or for teachers to facilitate small group instruction.
What is Flex Time?
Flex time is a period of time in the day where student can work on academic tasks without the structure of formal class time. During this time, students could work on their online coursework, work on projects, collaborate with other students, seek one-on-one assistance from their instructors, complete labs, etc. Students that are given flex time throughout the day will be required to remain on campus.
